  Changing the Game

BREAKING THE BIODIESEL PRICE & PROFIT PARADIGM
The BlueEarth Biofuels Project sets the bar VERY high for other biofuel producers through our game-changing open-book cost and pricing (with capped margin) approach. The U.S. biofuels industry has needlessly kept biodiesel pricing in lock step with petroleum pricing for over 6 years. BlueEarth's unique biodiesel pricing approach will NOT permit windfall profit-taking or the use of petroleum market price signals to increase biodiesel pricing, as is currently the standard practice in the biofuels industry throughout the United States today.

UNMATCHED BIODIESEL QUALITY IN THE PACIFIC
BlueEarth Biofuels' clean, modern, and efficient facility will provide the first biodiesel in the Pacific capable of meeting current stringent federal biodiesel fuel specifications: ASTM-D6751-07b, the same stringent specifications demanded by all vehicle manufacturers in order to comply with engine warranty requirements. Our in-house testing laboratory will ensure rigorous specification compliance of the biodiesel with every shipment (as required by the premier biodiesel production quality program, BQ-9000).

SOLID COMMITMENT TO THE WORKFORCE
Workers involved in this booming new national biofuels industry deserve safe working conditions, good benefits, and secure, high paying jobs, along with bargaining-unit representation. No other biofuels producer in the US has made this commitment to workers in this industry. The BlueEarth Biofuels Project on Maui has the full support of Labor (ILWU, IBEW, MILA & HI Building Trades Council).

SHARING PROFITS WITH THE PUBLIC – BIOFUEL'S TRUST
Through an unregulated subsidiary, Hawaiian Electric Company will be an equity holder in this project through a project company “BlueEarth Maui Biodiesel.” A unique added benefit of this project to the state is that all of Hawaiian Electric Company's net profits from the project will be contributed to a biofuels trust to enhance and stimulate the development of local biofuel crops and agricultural infrastructure.

COMMITMENT TO LOCAL AGRICULTURE
BlueEarth Biofuels' plant will finally create a viable bio-crop market to attract local agricultural participation and investment. The Maui Farm Bureau says, “Farmers will not plant bio-crops without a viable market already in place.” In addition to the agricultural-enhancing Biofuels Trust, the Project has agreed (via the sales agreement with the utility and the Special Purpose Revenue Bond terms) to buy locally produced feedstock as it becomes available. No other biodiesel producer in the country has stepped up to this level of local preference comittment in order to rapidly stimulate local agricultural development.

UNIQUE COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT
Biodiesel produces negligible net greenhouse gas emissions over the entire "Crop-to-Kilowatt" life-cycle when proper land management and farming practices are employed. This makes biodiesel an attractive, clean, renewable replacement for petroleum diesel fuel. BlueEarth Biofuels and the Hawaiian Electric Company are committed to producing ONLY sustainable biodiesel through this joint Project. To that end, the nation's top environmental watchdog and policy setting organization, the the Natural Resource Defense Council, has prepared the environmental standard that Hawaiian Electric Company will use to procure all of their biofuels. Landis Maez, President of BlueEarth Biofuels, states, "To date, only BlueEarth has agreed to comply with this proactive and globally significant environmental standard for biodiesel feedstock procurement."
